Top Five Car Gadgets for Christmas

December, 2013

Jam-packed shopping malls, Christmas carols ringing in your ears and tinsel, everywhere – it’s time to do the Christmas shopping! If you’re looking for the perfect gift for the family car enthusiast but don’t fancy battling the Christmas crowds, don’t worry. This year you won’t have to leave the comfort of your couch.

Here, we look at the top five car gadgets – all available online.

 1.     Solar mobile phone charger with LED light panel

Outdoor adventurers will love this solar mobile phone charger. Instead of scrambling to find a power point when your phone battery dies in the middle of the Western Australian outback, now all you have to do is find a sunny patch (shouldn’t be too hard) and charge away.

 2.     Digital tyre pressure gauge

With summer just around the corner, now is the perfect time to get all your vehicle maintenance in check. Car tyre pressure is integral to vehicular handling, and most tyres will require a pressure change with the seasons. A digital tyre pressure gauge makes things easier. These must-have gadgets are speedier and more accurate than standard pressure gauges so you can avoid pressure related issues. Take a look through our Summer Driving & Car Prep Checklist to get your pride and joy prepared for that summer heat.

 3.     CG Lock seatbelt enhancement

This simple gadget supports seatbelt tension, and claims to make you “one with the vehicle”. Realistically, it helps to improve driving precision by preventing you from bouncing around in your seat and improves precision much like a racing harness. The CG Lock is ideal for off-road and 4×4 enthusiasts, and can also be used on kids booster seats.

 4.     Alcohol breath tester

A cheap and portable breathalyser is handy to have on hand, especially as the social season creeps up on us. This one measures blood alcohol levels up to 0.2% (after which point you should probably be in bed anyway). It takes less than 8 seconds to give you a reading after blowing into the straw, and for less than $20 you could save yourself a DUI.

 5.     Sperling pet rug

Taking pets on a road trip is fraught with obstacles. Undoubtedly the number one obstacle is getting puppy to sit still in the back seat. Number two is vacuuming up all that fur and slobber after the holidaying is done. That is where pet rugs come in. These handy rugs fit onto your back seat and protect your fancy new sports car seats.
