July, 2017

Hyundai’s i30 N hot hatch – the answer to the Volkswagen Golf GTI – has been revealed ahead of its arrival in our showrooms in November this year.

Perhaps the most hotly anticipated release of the year, the i30 N will be available in two versions. Both come equipped with a 2.0 litre turbo charged petrol engine producing 353Nm of torque, however the more hardcore “Performance Package” offers 202kW over the standard cars already mighty 184kW. 0-100km/h is a claimed 6.4 seconds with the Performance Package shaving that down to 6.2.

In a nod to the enthusiasts among us, the i30 N will be available only with a six speed manual transmission for now.

The Performance Package receives far more than the noticeable power boost however. Highlighting it’s legitimate performance credentials, the performance pack receives an electronic limited-slip differential, variable exhaust system, and larger brakes with N branded red calipers. The faster of the twins also receives larger 19 inch alloys over the 18’s offered as standard, and come with even stickier Pirelli tyres in 235/35 aspect ratio. It sits on an even tighter tuned suspension package 4mm lower than the “standard” i30 N – itself already 4mm lower than the base i30 hatchback. This is shaping up to be a true rival to the hottest of hot hatches, one we can’t wait to get our hands on!

On the inside, the special N treatment continues. Still focussing on the driving experience, there are three standard driving modes available – Normal, Sport and Eco while a further N mode can be engaged at the touch of a button on the steering wheel. Standard to the i30 N is also a rev matching system for the 6 speed manual transmission allowing the perfect blip of the throttle on down shifts. For those who enjoy doing it all themselves however, you’ll be happy to hear the system can be switched on or off at the touch of a button, conveniently located on the steering wheel, by the N mode switch.

The leather bound steering wheel receives blue N stitching along with the N logo. A similar blue stripe and N logo also adorns the gear knob.  – something we feel we’ll be seeing a lot more of in the coming years. Think BMW ///M but in hot hatch form.
